 THE GAMER LAWYER

Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas, the Biden administration's oilest, slipperiest, most mendacious cabinet member, was put through the congressional wringer Wednesday and Thursday, over his "turnstyle" border policies as he well should have been.

Former Vice President Joe Biden will nominate Alejandro Mayorkas to run the Department of Homeland Security (DHS), despite his role in creating huge Latin American migration and his involvement in several visas-for-sale scandals.

(CNSNews.com) - When Department of Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas testified on Wednesday in the House Homeland Security Committee, Rep. Michael Guest (R.-Miss.) told him that he had “repeatedly lied.”

“Mr. Secretary, you have repeatedly lied,” the congressman said to Mayorkas.

“You've lied to Congress and you've lied to the American people when you said that the border is secure,” said the congressman.

“Here in September,” said the congressman, “a hearing in which Representative Pfluger asked you this question: Is the border more secure under your leadership than when you started? Your answer: Congressman, the border is secure.”

Rep. Guest then asked Mayorkas: “And so my question to you, Mr. Secretary, are you testifying as you sit here today that the southwest border is secure?

“Yes, I am,” said Mayorkas. “And we are continuing to work to make it more secure.”

Here is a transcript of the exchange between Rep. Michael Guest (R.-Miss.) and DHS Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas, where Mayorkas said that the border is secure:

Rep. Michael Guest (R.-Miss.): “Since you have been Secretary, since the Administration has taken over we have seen that there have been more than 2.4 million encounters, a number greater than 15 of our individual states. Just looking at the last six months, CBP reported that they have arrested 14,150 individuals with known criminal convictions, 321 known gang members.

“And we know that 23 individuals were encountered who were on the terrorist watch list. Mr. Secretary, you have repeatedly lied. You've lied to Congress and you've lied to the American people when you said that the border is secure. Here in September, a hearing in which Representative Pfluger asked you this question, is the border more secure under your leadership than when you started.

“Your answer: Congressman, the border is secure.

“We're executing our plan. And I've been very clear and unequivocal in that regard. Just over a year ago, you were interviewed by ABC. Martha Raddatz. She said this. We've heard the sheriff say it, the governors say it, and the immigrants I've spoken to say it. They're coming across the border because they believe they will be welcome under the Biden Administration.

“You yourself three weeks ago are not saying don't come. We're saying don't come now. President Biden had a stronger message later, but the messages are mixed at the best, Mr. Secretary. Your response: Martha, good morning. The message is quite clear. Do not come. The border is closed. The border is secure. And so my question to you, Mr. Secretary, are you testifying as you sit here today that the southwest border is secure?

DHS Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas: “Yes, I am. And we are continuing to work to make it more secure.”

Mayorkas admits that the illegals he releases will 'undoubtedly' commit crimes against Americans

Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas, the Biden administration's oilest, slipperiest, most mendacious cabinet member, was put through the congressional wringer Wednesday and Thursday, over his "turnstyle" border policies as he well should have been.

He put on the same bee ess show in a hearing before Congress, apparently to seek a bigger budget, handing out the usual tropes that have followed from his earlier claims that there is no crisis at the border: The border is under "operational control." He's just doing what the law tells him. He's not dumping unvetted illegals from 157 nations throughout the country in the dead of night, he's pursuing "alternatives to incarceration." It's the fault of the "broken" immigration system that he won't enforce the law. And he's proud of the job he's doing. Oh, and Trump did it.

His consistent denials of any problem at all at the border is why he's drawn so much ire in the way from Congress even as he seeks more money for his do-nothing department. Biden's plans for dropping the Title 42 basis for instant expulsion on COVID pandemic grounds is forecast to attract as many as 18,000 new illegals into the U.S. per day, up from the current record 7,000 or so. His solution is more agents, more resources, more money --  to create more turnstyles to get the unvetted illegals into the interior of the country faster, before anyone can complain. And since nobody except for the worst alien criminals ever gets deported, even with 1.2 million judicial final deportation orders outstanding, that's a non-issue, too.

The news reports about this have been disjointed, and many, such as this one from The Hill, have brimmed with open-borders bias, which obscured how important this microscope to Mayorkas from Congress really was.

The other clouding factor is that as good as many of the GOP congressional members were -- Jim Jordan, Josh Hawley, Chip Roy, et al -- they undercut themselves by interrupting Mayorkas all the time, inadvertantly denying the rest of us the opportunity to watch Mayorkas hang himself by laying out his open borders agenda. This had the unwelcome side effect of making Mayorkas look calm and reasonable, when it's Mayorkas who's the one working like a wild man to negate U.S. border law, rather than the congress members.

That said, the best performance was from Rep. Matt Gaetz (Honorable mentiom, Burgess Owens), who clearly understood the scope of the border crisis and did allow Mayorkas some space to reveal how bad he is:

According to Breitbart News,it began like this:

1.2 million people are un-detained, free, roaming about the country,” Gaetz began. “They’ve gone before a judge. A judge has issued a final order of removal. How many ICE agents do you need to deport them?”

Mayorkas repeatedly indicated during the heated four-hour hearing that Congress needed to pass immigration reform to help correct the ongoing border crisis. In response to Gaetz’s question, Mayorkas repeated that message, saying, “Congressman, I think what we need is legislation to fix a broken immigration system—”

ICE, however, does not rely on Congress to carry out deportations of those who have gone before a judge and received final orders of removal, Gaetz noted, re-asking if Mayorkas planned to remove the 1.2 million.

Mayorkas did not answer the question and instead indicated “resources” were impeding his ability to carry out deportations.

Gaetz then asked, “How much money do you need to deport all of them? How much money? How many agents to deport the 1.2 million who a judge has said have no right to be here?”

Mayorkas replied, “Congressman, there are a number of questions that your question raises with respect to whether all of those individuals actually have been given due process—”

Gaetz interrupted the border chief to correct him, saying, “No, no, no, they have. These are the people who have had their due process, ok? And here’s the point. You have no plan to remove them. You don’t know how many ICE agents it would take and you don’t know how much money it would take because you actually don’t want to remove them.”

Gaetz let him speak, and ratted out Mayorkas's full agenda as a result. We learned that Mayorkas has let terrorists into the country and "lost track" of them. The most telling part was when he asked Mayorkas about the criminal element rolling into the U.S. as a result of the surge, and whether he knew if such people would be commiting crimes.

"Undoubedly," Mayorkas replied, using that calm, oleaginous, avuncular demeanor of his, which is infuriating.

Here he's volunteering American citizens to be "collateral damage," as Gaetz put it, whether they like it or not, victims of illegal aliens on a crime spreand barely anyone in the mainstream media notices something amiss.

Sure, he pays lip service to the notion of following the law and enforcing the border, but with that 'undoubtedly' reveals himself to be one cold character.

No wonder the congressmembers are calling him 'traitor' and threatening to impeach him. Anyone with that little regard for lost American lives deserves this kind of label. Nonsensical testimony like Mayorkas's demonstrates just how big the scope of the problem is.

Biden’s DHS Confirms Plans to Siphon Healthcare Services Away from Veterans to Illegal Aliens at Border

President Joe Biden’s Department of Homeland Security (DHS) has seemingly confirmed plans to siphon healthcare services away from American veterans treated at Veterans Affairs (VA) to illegal aliens arriving at the United States-Mexico border.

During a hearing before the House Homeland Security Committee on Wednesday, DHS Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas confirmed to Rep. Ashley Hinson (R-IA) that the Biden administration is in talks with VA officials to potentially transfer doctors and nurses to the southern border to treat illegal aliens arriving every day in record-breaking numbers.

“Is the department planning to reallocate resources, doctors and nurses, from our VA system intended to care for our veterans to illegal immigrants at our southern border?” Hinson asked.

Mayorkas responded, stating that “the resources that the medical personnel from the Veterans Administration would allocate to this effort is under the judgment of the secretary of Veterans Affairs, who prioritizes the interests of veterans above all others for very noble and correct.”

When Hinson asked if Mayorkas had any conversations about the plan, he responded, “I have not personally, but of course, our teams, our personnel have. and I’d be very pleased to follow up with you.”

The remarks come as Sen. Josh Hawley (R-MO) had sought clarification on reports that the Biden administration was looking to siphon doctors and nurses away from the VA toward illegal aliens at the border.

“In the words of one [Customs and Border Protection] official, ‘We’re going to take medical services away from people that really deserve that, who went to combat … to give free medical attention to illegal migrants,'” Hawley wrote in a letter to Mayorkas.

Already, Americans are forced to subsidize medical care for illegal aliens to the tune of $18.5 billion annually. Last year alone, Americans footed the bill for more than $316 million in medical care for border crossers and illegal aliens who were detained in Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) custody.

DHS Secretary Could Not Say If 42 Aliens on the Terrorist Watch List or No-Fly List Were Released Into U.S.

(CNSNews.com) - In an often-heated hearing on Thursday, Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas was challenged over his management -- or failure to manage -- the overrun southwest border.

In one of those contentious moments, Rep. Jim Jordan asked Mayorkas about a Fox News report that 42 people on the terror watch list or no-fly list have been apprehended trying to sneak into the country since Joe Biden became president.

"Secretary, have any of the 42 illegal migrants on the terrorist watch list or no-fly list encountered on our southwest border been released into the United States?" Jordan asked Mayorkas.

"Ranking Member Jordan, as I mentioned before, I will provide that data to you with respect to the disposition of each one. I do not know the answer to your question," the secretary said.

Jordan responded: "The Secretary of Homeland Security does not know the answer to the status of 42 individuals who came to our southern border illegally, are on the no fly list, and the -- and the no -- and the terrorist watch list. You do not -- do not know whether they have been released or not into the country. That's your testimony."

"Ranking Member Jordan, as I've said before, I will provide you the data. I do want to --"

Jordan interrupted him: "I yield back to the gentleman. That's amazing. I yield back."

Fox News first reported that 23 people on the terror watch list or no-fly list had been apprehended at the southern border between Jan. 20 and the end of December.

Later, Fox put the number at 42, noting that "This latest figure includes the Office of Field Operations (OFO) data, and therefore includes those encountered at ports of entry. The information includes nationwide arrests and is not specific to the southern border," Fox reported.

Of course, as various Republicans have noted, no one knows how many dangerous people have entered the country undetected.

Dr. Sebastian Gorka told Breitbart News Editor-in-Chief Alex Marlow in a Thursday interview on SiriusXM’s Breitbart News Daily that people like U.S. Secretary of Homeland Security Alejandro Mayorkas should be prosecuted for assisting cartels and human traffickers through their failed border policies.

“Two million illegal aliens are being released into the nation,” Gorka told Marlow on Thursday.

“What is occurring on the southern border with women, with children — it’s slavery,” he continued. “It is the abuse of human beings by other human beings, they’re being sold, they’re being trafficked, and it is being perpetrated; assisted by this administration.”

Gorka added that he would like to see people like Mayorkas be prosecuted.

“I’m not interested in subpoenas, I’m not interested in the House investigating these guys after we win in the midterms,” Gorka said. “I want these people to be prosecuted, I want them to be charged. They are aiding and abetting criminal cartels.”

Listen Below:

Gorka also asserted that this type of corruption and criminal behavior in government has been going on for quite a while.

“Let’s just have a spreadsheet of the last 20 years in terms of corruption and illegality in government,” Gorka said. “What have we seen? [Former U.S. Attorney General] Eric Holder, the wing-man for Obama, who really turned the DOJ into a criminal organization, he was held in contempt of Congress.”

“Lois Lerner, who was found guilty, who we know was targeting American patriots, Tea Party organizations, with IRS investigations that were illegal, she leaves her job with a full government pension of more than $100,000 a year,” he added.

Gorka, therefore, maintained “It’s time for us to get serious.”

“I’ve had it with limp-wristed, spineless politicians who say they’re going to subpoena, the Lindsey Graham’s of the world, ‘We’re going to get serious.’ No, you’re not,” he said.

“We need to see people charged — government officials and former government officials, who’ve committed crimes,” Gorka insisted.

Exclusive–RJ Hauman: Biden Border Plan Won’t Stop Illegal Immigration, It Will Accelerate It

Large migrant groups increase in numbers as the Biden administration prepares to end Title 42. (U.S. Border Patrol/Rio Grande Valley Sector)
U.S. Border Patrol/Rio Grande Valley Sector
4:00

Embattled Department of Homeland Security (DHS) Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas just released a six pillar plan that purports to address the anticipated increase in illegal migration once Title 42 is no longer in effect.

It’s worse than you think.

The plan contains no policies or programs to deter illegal migration or close existing legal loopholes. Instead, it focuses on processing every migrant in the impending wave quickly and efficiently. Open borders asylum officers with rubber stamps await.

The Biden administration’s top immigration policy goal is to expand the number, method, and ease by which migrants can come to and remain in the United States. By quietly converting all illegal migrants into “asylum seekers,” the plan does exactly that.

What is most offensive about the plan is that DHS is pledging to expeditiously remove all migrants who are unable to establish a legal basis to remain in the country once Title 42 ends. You only need to look at how the Biden administration has managed the existing crisis on the border to understand that this pledge holds no water. Today, as a result of Biden administration policies, the expedited removal and credible fear process results in nearly every single migrant who makes a fraudulent asylum claim being released into the country. Those who are eventually (years later) ordered removed will largely have absconded and become fugitives that will never be deported.

That isn’t the only part that is all for show. The plan also calls for the ability to hold 18,000 illegal aliens in custody at a one time. There’s a big problem with that: the exact number of illegal aliens that border officials say we could be seeing every single day once Title 42 ends. That means 18,000 illegal aliens would have to be released every 24 hours.

So not only does the plan not address the real root cause of the border crisis – an asylum system that functions as a lawless, greased up turnstile into the United States – it makes it much, much worse.

The new plan is also sure to exacerbate horrors on the other side of the border – the part of the process that the Biden administration enables, but is unable to control. Rapacious smugglers stand ready to get even richer off of the human suffering of the hundreds of thousands of new migrants the promise of quick processing and a ticket to any American community will attract. Children will suffer, migrants will die, sexual assaults will continue, and cartels will get a new funding stream. All because of the plan.

Any plan intended to truly reduce or handle increased apprehensions at the border must look at past success. President Trump brought the 2019 border crisis to an end by creating the Migrant Protection Protocols (MPP) program, signing Asylum Cooperative Agreements (ACAs) with Northern Triangle countries, and issuing sweeping asylum rules to prevent fraud. The Biden administration quickly ended them all, although a federal judge ordered small-scale re-implementation of the MPP for the time being.

If the Biden administration wanted to truly end the border crisis, allowing asylum officers to parole migrants into the United States and rubber-stamp fraudulent asylum claims is not the way to do it. They need to start from the ground up: Fully re-implement MPP, sign ACAs, reform our asylum system, empower agents to enforce the immigration laws of this country, and send a message to economic migrants and human smugglers that asylum fraud is not a pathway to get into the United States.

Will they do this? Not a chance in hell. This is all by design.

Mayorkas: 'We Will Continue to Enforce Our Immigration Laws'; 'We Have Effectively Managed an Unprecedented Number of Noncitizens'

(CNSNews.com) - In his opening statement before the House Homeland Security Committee on Wednesday, Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas told lawmakers that contrary to what they've seen with their own eyes, DHS has been "executing a comprehensive strategy to secure our borders and rebuild our immigration system."

Later, in response to a question, Mayorkas asserted: "We have effectively managed an unprecedented number of non-citizens seeking to enter the United States, and interdicted more drugs and disrupted more smuggling operations than ever before."

But as the numbers reflect, under President Joe Biden, there are more noncitizens, drugs and smugglers coming across the southwest border than ever before. That border is not at all secure, and Mayorkas admitted that the record pace of illegal immigration is about to get worse:

"With the Title 42 public health order set to be lifted, we expect migration levels to increase as smugglers seek to take advantage of and profit from vulnerable migrants," he said.

"We will continue to enforce our immigration laws. After Title 42 is lifted, non-citizens will be processed pursuant to Title 8, which provides that individuals who cross the border without legal authorization are processed for removal. And if unable to establish a legal basis to remain in the United States, promptly removed from the country."

Mayorkas said his department started planning for the lifting of Title 42 last September, and he outlined "six pillars" to "manage the rise in non-citizen encounters."

-- "One, surge resources including personnel, transportation, medical support and facilities;

-- "Two, increase efficiency without compromising the integrity of our screening processes to reduce strain on the border.

-- "Three, administer consequences for unlawful entry, including expedited removal and criminal prosecution.

-- "Four, bolster the capacity of NGOs and coordinate with state, local, and community partners.

-- "Five, target and disrupt transnational criminal organizations and human smugglers.

-- "And six, deter irregular migration south of our border in partnership with other federal agencies and nations.

Mayorkas said the Biden administration "inherited a broken and dismantled" immigration system that was "already under strain."

But, as the numbers show, President Trump's efforts to reduce the cross-border flow, including the Remain in Mexico policy, did significantly reduce illegal immigration in the year before Joe Biden was elected president.

Joe Biden, however, promised to dismantle Trump's strict policies during his presidential campaign. In fact, Biden promised that "on day one" he would send Congress an immigration "reform" bill, and he said he would "keep families together," as well as provide a "clear road map to citizenship" for all the illegal immigrants currently in the United States.

Biden's words went out to the rest of the world -- get into the U.S. while you can, claim asylum, and someday you, too, may become a U.S. citizen. Since his election, Biden and his administration have done nothing to discourage illegal immigration except to say, "don't come."

Biden has never even been to the overrun border, where record numbers of people (and drugs) are flowing in.

(CBP chart)
(CBP chart)

'We have effectively managed an unprecedented number of non-citizens'

Mayorkas on Wednesday said the current system "is not built to manage the current levels and types of migratory flows. Only Congress can fix this," he said. "Yet, we have effectively managed an unprecedented number of non-citizens seeking to enter the United States, and interdicted more drugs and disrupted more smuggling operations than ever before."

Mayorkas said the anticipated "significant increase" in illegal immigration once Title 42 is listed "will strain our system even further," but he said DHS "will address this challenge successfully, but it will take time. And we need the partnership of Congress, state and local officials, NGOs and communities to do so."

Mayorkas said he has requested funding to hire 300 new Border Patrol agents "to ensure the safe and humane treatment of migrants" and to do asylum processing.

"We are requesting additional funds to counter human and drug smuggling operations, combat the heinous crimes of child exploitation and human trafficking, and stop goods produced by forced labor from entering our markets," he added.

Resign or face impeachment

Wednesday's hearing was often contentious, with Mayorkas insisting that "we will not lose operational control of the border" when Title 42 is lifted, something that's supposed to happen on May 23, pending a court challenge.

Rep. Michael McCaul, a Texas Republican, told Mayorkas, "I've never seen the border more broken. It is not under operational control. It is out of control.

"And don't take my word for it. When I looked at the findings of the court, the cause is not climate change or some weird migration phenomena. It is the fact that on day one, your administration rescinded the Migrant Protection Protocols and Remain in Mexico because you didn't like the former President. And that's fine.

"But don't -- don't rescind what was working. This program was working, and the courts said that. Their findings of fact were that the Migrant Protection Protocol program was decreasing the volume of inadmissible aliens arriving in United States on land from Mexico. Further, they said the termination of MPP has contributed has to the current border surge."

McCaul told Mayorkas, "Your responsibility by law is to protect the United States, both air, land, and sea. You have failed in this mission when it comes to our land border, and my state and our Texas Guardsmen that...died saving two narco-raffickers. You are complicit."

Mayorkas did not have an opportunity to respond.

Rep. Clay Higgins (R-La.) called the border situation a "disaster."

"The disintegration of our national sovereignty cannot be sustained. Anyone that has two brain cells, they could perhaps bump into each other, would know that is abject failure down there. So if you would identify our border as effectively managed right now...how would you identify failure?" Higgins asked.

Higgins noted that he and other Republicans have called on Mayorkas to resign. "Next year, if we have the majority in this committee, which we shall, if you're still in office, you face impeachment. I asked you as a man, own this thing. Out of respect for you and the office, I ask you to reflect upon that, and I'll give you my remaining 45 seconds to respond."

Mayorkas responded: "Congressman, I couldn't disagree with you more when you say that -- when you state that our nation's sovereignty is disintegrating."

And that was all Mayorkas said in response.

The Federation for American Immigration Reform (FAIR) released an analysis using U.S. Census Bureau data that shows the illegal alien population has ballooned since Joe Biden took office by one million, bringing the national overall total to 15.5 million at a taxpayer cost of $143.1 billion a year.

The Federation for American Immigration Reform (FAIR) released an analysis using U.S. Census Bureau data that shows the illegal alien population has ballooned since Joe Biden took office by one million, bringing the national overall total to 15.5 million at a taxpayer cost of $143.1 billion a year.

Just over the course of Biden’s first year as president the cost to taxpayers for the new one million illegals is $9.4 billion.

The summary of the FAIR report stated:

These staggering increases in both the size of the illegal alien population and the cost to the American public are a direct result of policies put in place since President Biden took office, concludes the report.

The report, “2021 Update: How Many Illegal Aliens Live in the United States?,” reveals how a slew of policy changes both at the border and in the interior of the country propelled rapid surges in both the magnitude and the costs of illegal immigration. Specifically, upon taking office, the Biden administration canceled agreements with Mexico and governments in Central America, and terminated border wall construction. These policies were effectively deterring new illegal immigration before President Biden came to office, and allowed for the expedited return of most of those caught entering the country illegally.

Similarly, the administration abandoned nearly all immigration enforcement in the interior of the country, resulting in record low numbers of illegal aliens who were removed from the country. Under these policies, which directly defy federal laws, nearly all illegal aliens in the U.S. are off-limits to apprehension by Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE), which is also severely constrained in where they can arrest even the small segment of the illegal population still subject to removal.

“President Biden and the people he appointed to key positions in his administration have pursued the most radical open-borders policies in the history of any sovereign nation, and these new numbers bear that out,” Dan Stein, president of FAIR, said in the announcement of the analysis, “If not for the COVID pandemic, which forced the administration to keep Title 42 in place last year, the additional influx and costs to American taxpayers would have been far greater.”

“Rather than reinstate effective border and interior enforcement policies, the administration is doubling down on its ruinous open-border policies and is set to end Title 42 on May 23. These new illegal alien population and cost estimates by FAIR, and the imminent removal of the last effective border enforcement mechanism, leave no doubt that unchecked illegal immigration and staggering cost burdens to the American public are the explicit goals of the Biden administration,” Stein said.

Fox News reported on the analysis:

FAIR claims that Biden “has effectively abolished the mission of U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE), preventing the U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) from securing our southern border, and implementing measures that encourage mass illegal immigration.”

The report points to the narrowed interior enforcement, the ending of the Migrant Protection Protocols (MPP), ending of border wall construction, continued designations of Temporary Protected Status (TPS) and promising amnesty for illegal immigrants already in the country as part of an immigration reform proposal.

The report says the states with the most illegal immigrants are California (3.3 million), Texas (2.2 million), Florida (1.2 million) and New York (1.1 million.) The states with the fewest illegal immigrants are North Dakota and West Virginia, with 6,000 each.

The report said some businesses are seeking cheap labor now the country is opening back up following the coronavirus pandemic.

“Businesses are once again hiring, and many unscrupulous employers are using this as an opportunity to turn to reliably cheap labor to undercut the market and make up for lost profits resulting from economic shutdowns stemming from the pandemic,” the report stated. “These unethical hiring practices occur even though millions of Americans remain unemployed or underemployed.”

Cotton: Biden WH Thinks ‘Borders Should Never Be Enforced’

1:26

Thursday on Fox News Channel’s “America’s Newsroom,” Sen. Tom Cotton (R-AR) weighed in on the Department of Homeland Security’s recently unveiled immigration plan ahead of the end of Title 42.

Cotton called President Joe Biden’s approach to the border “deeply ideological.” He added members of the administration “think that borders should never be enforced.”

“It goes to show how deeply ideological Joe Biden’s approach to the border is,” Cotton advised. “We should be protecting our border. The only people crossing our border should be those who have a legal right to cross the border. Illegal aliens have no reason to be in this country. They should be turned back. If they have an asylum claim, they should have to wait in Mexico for that asylum claim. That would be effectively managing our border.”

“Alejandro Mayorkas and Joe Biden think an effective way to manage the border is to expedite the entry of illegal aliens,” he continued. “They’re patting themselves on the back for surging resources to include, apparently, doctors and nurses from our veterans’ affairs hospitals and clinics to the border to get more illegal aliens into the country faster. It is a deeply ideological approach from people who don’t respect borders. They think that borders should never be enforced.”

Big Bend Sector Border Patrol agents may have saved the lives of 48 migrants locked inside a tractor-trailer near Sierra Blanca, Texas, on Saturday. Agents found the migrants during an inspection at the Interstate 10 immigration checkpoint.

Sierra Blanca Station Border Patrol agents assigned to the Interstate 10 interior immigration checkpoint on April 23 observed a tractor-trailer rig approaching for inspection. During the initial interview, agents observed the driver appeared to be nervous and in a hurry to clear the checkpoint, according to information obtained from Big Bend Sector Border Patrol officials.

Becoming suspicious, the agents referred the driver to a secondary inspection station. A Border Patrol K-9 alerted to the possible presence of drug or human cargo while searching around the outside of the trailer.

The agents opened the locked trailer and found 48 migrants inside with limited air circulation and no means of escape in case of a crash or abandonment by human smugglers. The agents report the migrants were sweating profusely and appeared to be overheated.

The agents got the migrants out of the trailer and transported them to the Sierra Blanca Border Patrol station for their initial medial evaluation and screening.

“The fight against human smuggling is ongoing,” Big Bend Sector Chief Patrol Agent Sean L. McGoffin said in a written statement. “Organized human smugglers are putting innocent lives at risk, the thoroughness of our agents, and our K-9 partners, brought an end to this dangerous scheme.”

Officials did not disclose the age, gender, or nationality of the apprehended migrants. They also did not report if any needed additional medical attention.

Agents turned the case over to Homeland Security Investigations for further investigation into the human smuggling attempt.

Rio Grande Valley Sector Border Patrol agents found three large groups of migrants who crossed the border into Starr County, Texas. The three groups combined for a total of 517 migrants.

Rio Grande City Station Border Patrol agents encountered three separate groups of migrants over a period of less than 24 hours. Officials stated the groups consisted of 387 single adults, 143 family units, and 87 unaccompanied alien children.

The agents identified the 517 migrants as citizens of Cuba, Kazakhstan, and nations of Central and South America.

In addition, Falfurrias Station agents assigned to the interior immigration checkpoint located in Brooks County, Texas, on U.S. Highway 281 interdicted two human smuggling incidents involving tractor-trailers on April 23, officials reported. A K-9 alert led to the discovery of three migrants hiding in a load of produce in the first trailer and six migrants in the second produce-laden trailer. Agents identified the migrants as citizens of Colombia, El Salvador, and other Central American nations.

That same day, Texas DPS troopers observed a Volkswagen Jetta suddenly stop on Highway 281 just south of the checkpoint in Brooks County. The driver unloaded a group of migrants and drove away. The trooper and nearby agents quickly rounded up three migrants. The driver managed to escape apprehension.

DPS troopers also engaged in a vehicle stop near Mission, Texas. Border Patrol agents responded and identified six passengers in the vehicle as citizens of Mexico, Guatemala, and Honduras. DPS arrested the driver on human smuggling charges.

Laredo Sector Border Patrol agents interdicted nine human smuggling attempts utilizing tractor-trailer rigs during the past week. The searches of the trailers led to the apprehension of nearly 500 migrants from this single method of conveyance.

Laredo Sector Chief Patrol Agent Carl E. Landrum tweeted images from the failed human smuggling attempts. Many were disrupted by the use of K-9 teams at interior immigration checkpoints.

Landrum reported that during a one-week period, agents recovered nearly 500 migrants in nine failed human smuggling efforts using 18-wheelers to move their human cargo. In some instances, the migrants were the only cargo in the trailers. In others, the migrants were dangerously packed between pallets loaded with other goods.

In one incident, agents found 120 migrants in a tractor-trailer inspected at the Interstate 35 immigration checkpoint between Laredo and San Antonio. The group of migrants included several unaccompanied children. Agents identified the migrants as citizens of Guatemala and Mexico, officials stated. Agents arrested the driver.

During that same period, Laredo Sector agents apprehended more than 2,600 migrants after they illegally entered the U.S. In addition, Chief Landrum reported the turnback of more than 870 migrants while they were in the process of crossing the Rio Grande.

These apprehensions included migrants found on ranches by Horse Patrol Unit agents, Landrum tweeted. The agents were assisted by a Texas DPS helicopter aircrew and ground-based agents.

-- "One, surge resources including personnel, transportation, medical support and facilities;
